Savitha Shanmugasundaram, a 21-year-old Tamil American and University of Texas at Austin senior, was fatally shot when a gunman opened fire at a crowded entertainment venue on West Sixth Street in Austin, killing two others and injuring fourteen more. The shooter was killed by Austin police at the scene. Shanmugasundaram had been on the cusp of graduating with dual degrees in Management Information Systems and Economics, and had already secured a position at a major professional services firm. She was known for her involvement in campus organizations and dance competitions, and a McCombs School of Business professor publicly described her as 'one of our superstar students.'
