Iranian-Born Artist Ali Banisadr Brings a Visionary Solo Exhibition to Buffalo AKG
Buffalo's Desi and South Asian art lovers have a rare opportunity this summer and fall to experience the work of Iranian-born painter Ali Banisadr in an unprecedented solo exhibition at one of the city's most celebrated cultural institutions.
🎨 A Mind-Expanding Show at the AKG
Running from late June through early November 2026, Ali Banisadr's solo exhibition at the Buffalo AKG Art Museum will occupy both the Hemicycle Gallery and the Wilmers Galleries — making Banisadr the first artist ever invited to place interventions within the museum's permanent collection spaces. The exhibition takes its name from a painting by Albert Pinkham Ryder, using it as a conceptual lens through which perception, memory, and imagination are explored. Visitors will encounter Banisadr's work alongside pieces ranging from Surrealist dreamscapes to Abstract Expressionist canvases, as well as sketchbooks and studio materials that illuminate the artist's creative process. An audio journey voiced by Banisadr himself will guide visitors, and the show will debut a new etching produced in collaboration with Mirabo Press in Buffalo. A short documentary film about the artist is also currently in development. [2]
