Sacred Space Violated: Thieves Target Fremont Hindu Temple in Brazen Early-Morning Break-In
For Fremont's Hindu community, a place of worship is far more than a building — it is a sanctuary shared by hundreds of devotees each week, which makes the recent break-in at SVCC Temple all the more painful and personal.
🛕 Power Tool Break-In Shocks SVCC Temple Community
In the early hours of a Tuesday morning, three individuals broke into the SVCC Hindu Temple in Fremont and made off with approximately $2,000 in cash offerings that devotees had made to the deities. Surveillance footage showed the suspects spending over three minutes attempting to drill or saw into a metal safe, sending sparks flying throughout the space. The temple's priest and manager noted that seven donation containers were taken, and that the stolen funds directly support the purchase of fresh flowers, fruits, garlands, and other items used in religious proceedings. A temple volunteer stressed that the violation felt especially deep because the space belongs not to any individual, but to the deities and the broader community of worshippers — around 200 of whom visit on a typical Tuesday. This was not the first burglary at SVCC Temple, though members described it as the most serious to date, and a police report has been filed. [1]
