Agartala lit up on September 13, 2026, as Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations at three prominent pandals across the city, marking the start of the festive calendar. That same week, the city drew wider notice as India's largest hospitality company IHCL announced a new Gateway hotel partnership, while the Chief Minister had also presided over the unveiling of statues of Swami Vivekananda and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at a heritage programme two days earlier.
🪔 Ganesh Chaturthi Lights Up the Capital
Agartala came alive with Ganesh Chaturthi fervour on September 13, 2026, as the festive spirit swept across the city, filling it with devotion, lights, music, and excitement. Brightly decorated puja pandals sprang up across the capital, and the sound of devotional music mingled with the gathering of families and young residents as the city welcomed Lord Ganesha with prayers and celebrations. Among the most prominent festivities were those organised by Ganapati Samajik Sanstha, Ekdanta Club, and Grassroot Samajik Sanstha at Jackson Gate. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha personally inaugurated the three puja celebrations on Sunday evening, joining devotees and organisers in marking the occasion. The inauguration ceremonies drew large crowds and resulted in beautifully illuminated puja venues across the city. Youngsters contributed with particular enthusiasm, taking part in decorations, cultural programmes, and the overall arrangements at the puja venues. For many residents, the celebrations were not merely religious occasions but also opportunities for community participation and togetherness. The Ganesh Chaturthi festivities also marked the beginning of a broader festive season for Agartala, one set to reach its grandest crescendo the following month with Durga Puja — the biggest festival for Bengalis — with the countdown to that celebration already underway.
