IHCL Signs Gateway Hotel in Agartala as Hulladek Recycling Launches E-Waste Drive

Agartala's growing profile as a business and tourism destination received a boost with a major hospitality signing and an environmental awareness drive highlighting the city's modernising momentum.

IHCL Signs 104-Key Gateway Hotel in Agartala, Expanding North East Footprint

India's largest hospitality company, IHCL (The Indian Hotels Company Limited), has announced the signing of a Gateway branded hotel in Agartala, Tripura, marking a significant development for the city's growing hospitality sector. The brownfield project, developed in partnership with Samashti Hotels and Resorts Pvt Ltd, will bring the 104-key Gateway Agartala to the city's accommodation landscape. The hotel will feature an all-day dining restaurant, a specialty restaurant and bar, a spa, fitness centre, swimming pool, and spacious banqueting venues and meeting rooms for both business and social occasions. Leah Tata, VP and Brand Leader for Gateway at IHCL, said the signing aligned with the company's strategy of expanding across key business centres and emerging destinations, noting that Gateway has built strong momentum with over 60 hotels in its portfolio and a target of 100 hotels by 2030. Mr Alluri Harsha Varma, Director of Samashti Hotels and Resorts, welcomed the partnership as an opportunity to introduce the Gateway brand to a city growing in national prominence. Agartala, the capital of Tripura, is home to cultural landmarks including the Ujjayanta Palace and Neermahal. With this signing, IHCL will have three hotels in Tripura, including two currently under development. [3]

Hulladek Recycling Launches Freedom from Ewaste Campaign in Agartala

Hulladek Recycling launched its awareness campaign titled "Freedom from Ewaste" in Agartala on August 10, in a drive aimed at educating residents and institutions about responsible e-waste disposal and recycling. The campaign was flagged off by Dr Bisu Karmakar, Member Secretary of the Tripura State Pollution Control Board, and Manas Mukherjee, reflecting an alignment between the private sector initiative and the state's regulatory body. The campaign focuses on spreading awareness about the growing problem of electronic waste — discarded electronics including smartphones, computers, and household appliances — that poses significant health and environmental risks when improperly disposed of. Hulladek Recycling conducts awareness drives and collection camps across cities in eastern India, working alongside government bodies to promote formal e-waste channels over informal dumping. The Agartala campaign represents an expanding effort to reach Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities in northeast India, where awareness of e-waste hazards remains comparatively lower than in major metros. By engaging the State Pollution Control Board at the launch, Hulladek Recycling aims to build institutional support for better e-waste governance in Tripura. The initiative is part of a broader national push to comply with India's E-Waste Management Rules and reduce hazardous materials from entering water sources and soil. [4]
