The Taste of Pakistan festival returned to southwest suburban Bolingbrook, drawing Pakistani-American community members and neighbors to one of the area most established South Asian cultural gatherings. Held at 375 W. Briarcliff Road, the festival ran through Saturday evening until 11 p.m. and featured the event 30th annual flag raising ceremony, a milestone marking three decades of organized celebration of Pakistan Independence Day in the Chicago suburbs. The flag raising ceremony has become a defining tradition for Bolingbrook Pakistani community, representing the community enduring roots in the village since the event was first established. Festival-goers enjoyed Pakistani food alongside live entertainment and raffle prizes, with the mix of cultural programming and cuisine drawing visitors from beyond the immediate neighborhood as well as local residents. A sit-down restaurant celebrating Indian and Pakistani cuisine opened in Bolingbrook, adding to the village South Asian dining landscape. Desi Diner is located at 247 S. Bolingbrook Drive in a commercial strip mall near Tony Fresh Market, making it straightforward to find for residents across the village. The restaurant offers fine dining alongside banquet services, and owner-operator Ashfaq Khan, who lives in nearby Shorewood, was interviewed by Bolingbrook Patch at the time of opening. Khan described the venue as a cozy space with ample seating, and said he wanted diners to experience South Asian food alongside genuine hospitality and good service. Weekday hours run Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., with Friday service extending to 11 p.m. Weekend hours open at 10 a.m., with Saturday closing at 11 p.m. and Sunday at 10 p.m. In addition to dine-in service, Desi Diner handles catering for off-site events and accepts carryout orders.
