India’s 80th Independence Day Celebrated at CGI Brisbane Reception

On 16 August, the Consulate General of India in Brisbane hosted a National Day Reception to mark India’s 80 years of independence. The event brought together a cross‑section of Queensland’s political and diplomatic community alongside local councillors and members of the Indian diaspora.

Among the dignitaries were Queensland’s Minister for Multiculturalism, Fiona Simpson MP, and the state’s Minister responsible for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training. Their presence underscored the strong bipartisan support for cultural diversity and the deepening economic ties between Queensland and India.

The reception offered a platform for networking, with Indian community leaders engaging Queensland officials on issues ranging from trade opportunities to community‑level multicultural initiatives. Traditional Indian dishes were served, and the venue was decorated with both Indian and Australian flags, creating a vibrant reminder of shared heritage and mutual respect.
