Rajasthan Community Body Rebukes MP’s Remarks Linking Hindu Faith to Migration Policy

Queensland MP Robbie Katter sparked criticism on Friday after telling ABC Radio Brisbane that Australia might factor a migrant’s Hindu faith and caste background when assessing suitability for entry. His remarks suggested religion and social hierarchy could be used as selection criteria.

The comments were swiftly rebuked by the Association of Australian Rajasthani Inc., the representative body for Rajasthani Australians. President Arix Bishnoi said the community rejects any suggestion that faith or caste should influence immigration decisions, emphasizing that newcomers should be evaluated on their conduct and commitment to Australian values.

Bishnoi added that the Rajasthani diaspora, like other South‑Asian groups, contributes to Australia’s multicultural fabric and that policies should focus on integration and character, not on religious identity. The association called for a more nuanced public discourse on migration.
