Amit Shah Reiterates India’s Zero‑Tolerance Stance on Terrorism, Calls for Trust‑Based BIMSTEC Cooperation

New Delhi – Union Home Minister Amit Shah used Tuesday’s remarks to reaffirm India’s unwavering "zero tolerance" approach to terrorism. Speaking at a regional security forum, Shah emphasized that the fight against extremism cannot succeed without solid mutual trust and coordinated action among the eight BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi‑Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) member states.
He highlighted that India’s security framework is built on proactive intelligence sharing, joint training exercises, and swift legal action against any terror-related activity. Shah’s comments come at a time when the BIMSTEC region, which includes Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand and a few others, is grappling with cross‑border threats and the need for a unified response.
For the South‑Asian diaspora, Shah’s message underscores the importance of regional stability for the safety of families and businesses spread across these nations. A cohesive BIMSTEC front, he argued, not only deters terror networks but also fosters an environment where trade, tourism, and cultural exchange can thrive without fear.
The minister concluded by urging all member countries to deepen cooperation, stating that shared vigilance is the cornerstone of a secure and prosperous Bay of Bengal community.
