Finland Targets Double‑Digit Trade Growth with India and Calls for More Indian Skill‑sets

Helsinki is looking to deepen its economic ties with New Delhi, with the Finnish Embassy saying the two countries could see bilateral trade rise from its current roughly $3 billion level to about twice that amount. Ambassador Mikko Kivikoski told Indian media that the trade upside is “huge” and that Finland hopes to attract a larger pool of Indian professionals across sectors such as technology, engineering and health care.
The outreach comes as Finland seeks to diversify its markets and address talent shortages in high‑tech and knowledge‑intensive industries. By inviting more Indian experts, the Nordic nation aims to boost collaboration, spur joint ventures and create a pipeline of expertise that can feed both Finnish firms and Indian partners.
For the South‑Asian diaspora, the announcement signals potential new career pathways and investment opportunities. Indian entrepreneurs and skilled workers already based in Europe may find a friendlier regulatory environment and increased demand for their expertise, while businesses back home could benefit from a wider network of Finnish contacts.
Both governments have indicated that future dialogues will focus on simplifying visa processes, recognising qualifications and facilitating joint research projects, laying groundwork for a more integrated Indo‑Finnish economic partnership.
