PM Modi honors late leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee on anniversary of his passing

New Delhi – On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a Bharat Ratna recipient and widely regarded as a visionary statesman. Speaking from the capital, Modi described Vajpayee as an “extraordinary” leader whose contributions to India’s democratic life and foreign policy continue to resonate.
Modi’s remarks came as part of a series of tributes across the country, where politicians, scholars and citizens gathered to recall Vajpayee’s role in steering India through pivotal moments such as the nuclear tests of 1998 and the peace overtures to Pakistan. The PM highlighted the former leader’s ability to blend firmness with compassion, noting that his speeches and poetry still inspire younger generations.
The remembrance holds particular relevance for the South‑Asian diaspora, many of whom grew up hearing Vajpayee’s oratory on radio and television, and who view his tenure as a period of stability and inclusive growth. By honoring his legacy, the current government signals continuity in valuing democratic ideals and the pluralistic ethos that many overseas Indians cherish.
Vajpayee passed away on August 16, 2005, and his memory remains a focal point in India’s contemporary political discourse.
