A home guard serving on deputation to the Railway Protection Force was arrested after footage of him assaulting a woman spread rapidly across social media platforms. The incident occurred on the evening of Friday, September 18, outside Hafeezpet Railway station in Hyderabad, where the home guard, identified as Anand, was seen on video beating the woman and dragging her across the street by her hair. The footage triggered immediate and widespread outrage online. Telangana Director General of Police CV Anand issued a strong public statement describing the behaviour as something that cannot be forgiven, signalling official condemnation at the highest level of the state police. Authorities moved quickly to hold Anand accountable on two fronts. He was arrested following the incident and simultaneously dismissed from service, ending his deputation with the RPF. A First Information Report was registered against him at Miyapur police station. According to the FIR, the complainant was head constable S Gopal, who was out on patrol accompanied by Special Police Officer Rajeshwar Reddy when he learned of the assault. Gopal stated that upon receiving information about the incident, he and Reddy conducted enquiries before lodging the formal complaint. 🏢 Hyderabad Accounts for 87 Percent of Telangana Mutual Fund Assets, AMFI Data Shows
Fresh data released by the Association of Mutual Funds in India for July 2026 confirms that Hyderabad is the dominant driver of investment activity in Telangana mutual fund sector. The city total assets under management reached Rs 1,84,261 crore in July 2026, an 18 percent increase compared to the same month in 2025, representing 87 percent of Telangana overall mutual fund AUM. Hyderabad ranked eighth among India top 30 cities by mutual fund assets and contributed 2.10 percent of the country aggregate total. The city held 54.44 lakh mutual fund folios, which accounted for 66.2 percent of Telangana entire folio count. At the state level, Telangana total mutual fund AUM grew to Rs 2,12,856 crore in July 2026, a 19 percent year-on-year rise, placing the state eighth among all states and Union Territories in India. Telangana contributed roughly 2.5 percent of India total mutual fund assets, and the state 82.24 lakh folios represented approximately 2.9 percent of the national total. Together, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh held mutual fund assets worth Rs 2.95 lakh crore. Andhra Pradesh AUM came in at Rs 82,409 crore, up 23 percent from the prior year, with the state ranking 15th nationally and its folio count crossing 79.44 lakh, according to AMFI. [7]
