Telangana Greenlights Rs 180 Cr Upgrade of Gudemdoddi Reservoir, Boosting Capacity Ten‑fold

Hyderabad, Sept 10 – The Telangana state government has given the green light to a major expansion of the Gudemdoddi Balancing Reservoir, earmarking Rs 180 crore for the project. The plan will raise the reservoir’s storage from its current 1.19 TMC (thousand million cubic feet) to a projected 15 TMC, a more than ten‑fold increase.

The upgrade is part of the state’s broader water‑security strategy, aimed at stabilising supply for agriculture, industry and domestic use across the region, especially during dry spells. By expanding the reservoir’s capacity, officials hope to capture and retain monsoon runoff more effectively, reducing dependence on distant water sources and mitigating the impact of recurring droughts.

For the South‑Asian diaspora, the development signals a continued investment in critical infrastructure that underpins food production and livelihoods in Telangana, a state with a sizable expatriate community.
