Andhra Association of Queensland Draws 900 to Dasara‑Diwali Fest in Logan

On Sunday, 11 October, the Andhra Association of Queensland (AAQ) turned the Logan West Community Centre in Hillcrest into a vibrant showcase of Telugu heritage. Around 900 members of the local South‑Asian community gathered to celebrate the twin festivals of Dasara and Diwali. The programme featured 96 performers who presented a mix of traditional music, classical dance, and cultural displays that highlighted the richness of Andhra’s customs.
The event, organised by AAQ, served as a reminder of the importance of preserving language, art and ritual for diaspora families spread across Queensland. By bringing together families, students and seniors, the celebration reinforced community bonds and offered younger generations a live experience of the festivals they may otherwise only observe through media.
For many attendees, the evening provided a chance to reconnect with familiar rhythms, share festive foods and partake in communal prayers, underscoring how regional cultural organisations continue to play a pivotal role in keeping South‑Asian traditions alive far from home.
