Thousands of devotees gathered at the Kallazhagar Temple in Alagar Kovil, on the outskirts of Madurai, to participate in the grand Therottam — the Temple Chariot Festival — as part of the annual Aadi Perunthiruvizha celebrations. The Therottam is among the most visually magnificent of Tamil temple traditions, in which the presiding deity is placed on an elaborately decorated wooden chariot and drawn by thousands of devotees in a collective act of devotion. The Aadi Perunthiruvizha is observed during the Tamil month of Aadi, a period considered auspicious for devotees of Lord Vishnu and his manifestations. The Kallazhagar Temple, also known as Alagar Kovil, is one of the 108 Divya Desams — the sacred Vishnu shrines venerated in the Vaishnava tradition — and holds deep spiritual significance for Tamil pilgrims from across the state.

Tamil Nadu Appoints Eight Additional Advocate Generals for Madurai Bench

The Tamil Nadu government has appointed eight Additional Advocate Generals to represent the state at the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court. The appointments were formally notified through a Government Order issued by the Public (Law Officers) Department. The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court serves as the principal judicial authority for the southern districts of Tamil Nadu. Strengthening the state’s legal representation at the Bench signals an effort to ensure adequate resources for court proceedings, which manage a substantial caseload given the districts served.
