🗳️ PM Modi Inaugurates India's First Namo Bharat RRTS and Meerut Metro
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India's first Namo Bharat RRTS alongside the Meerut Metro on February 22, 2026, marking a significant milestone for the city's rail-based public transport. The inauguration brought into service the Namo Bharat rapid rail system, designated as India's first operational deployment of this category of regional rapid transit, along with the Meerut Metro. The Shatabdi Nagar Namo Bharat Station was among the key stations included within the newly inaugurated network. The Namo Bharat Train, which operates as part of the RRTS corridor, formed the headline element of the rapid transit system brought into service on the day. The fact that the Prime Minister presided directly over the inauguration of both systems underscored their national significance and the importance attached to the project by the central government. For a city long served primarily by road-based transport, the launch of both the Namo Bharat RRTS and the Meerut Metro on a single day in February 2026 represented a transformative addition to organised mass transit. The designation of the Namo Bharat RRTS as India's first of its kind gave the February 22 inauguration in Meerut a place in the national transport record, making the city the first in the country to operate this class of regional rapid transit.
