Kanwariya Killed in Meerut Truck Accident Returning from Haridwar
A kanwariya was killed and five others were injured on the night of August 23, 2026, when a truck sideswiped a pick-up vehicle carrying a group of pilgrims returning from Haridwar. The group, numbering around 20 people, were from Senakala village and were travelling back to Etah after completing the Kanwar Yatra. The accident took place in Meerut. Senior Superintendent of Police Elamaran G confirmed that Chandrapal, aged 42 and a resident of Sainakala, died as a result of the collision. Among the injured, Vishal, aged 15, Ranjana Devi, aged 35, Sundarlal, aged 30, and Atul Kumar, aged 18, sustained serious injuries and were admitted to Lala Lajpat Rai Medical College in Meerut for treatment. Another injured member of the group, Avnish, approximately 30 years old, was transported to Etah for medical care. Authorities arrested the truck driver involved in the incident following the accident. The body of Chandrapal was sent for a post-mortem examination and was subsequently returned to Sainakala village. The remaining members of the Kanwar Yatra group who had been travelling in the pick-up vehicle at the time of the accident were reported to be safe.
