Born in Big Spring and raised in Merkel, Kent arrived in Mesquite in 1972 with his wife Marlene, and the home they settled in became the only one their sons would ever know growing up. For 35 years, Kent and Marlene were devoted members of the Highland Oaks Church of Christ in Mesquite, where Kent served in numerous roles including song leader, teacher, deacon, and elder — a testament to how deeply he was woven into the spiritual life of the city. Professionally, Kent built a remarkable career with the Upjohn Company as a pharmaceutical salesman, earning President's Circle recognition and Salesman of the Year honors multiple times before retiring in 2001 after decades with the same employer — a rare feat. He also served on several boards in an advisory capacity, including Amberton University, and was known for his quiet strength, quick wit, and genuine warmth toward everyone he encountered. Robert Roland Temple, who went by Roland, passed away on April 10, 2026, in Kaufman, Texas, at the age of 62, leaving behind a family that stretches across three generations and a love story with deep roots in Mesquite. Roland and his future wife Charlotte first laid eyes on each other on January 28, 1985, while cruising Galloway Avenue in Mesquite — he behind the wheel of a red Mustang, she in a red Camaro — a moment that blossomed into more than 40 years of marriage and a devoted family life. A graduate of Royse City High School and a former student at Eastfield Community College, Roland became a certified air conditioning contractor and went on to build a respected career as a Building Engineer in the commercial industry. He was a man of faith who attended Blessed Hope Baptist Church in Dallas, where he was both baptized and later rededicated his life to Christ, finding deep meaning in his church community. Roland is survived by his wife Charlotte, their son and daughter, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, as well as his mother and extended family members who will carry forward the warmth and loyalty that defined him. His career in public safety was distinguished: he rose through the ranks of the Dallas Marshal's office from Public Service Officer to Senior Deputy Marshal, taking on roles that included firearm and defensive tactics training for both sworn and civilian personnel, and serving a year as Interim Chief before retiring in 2009. Tanner's faith grew steadily in his later years, guiding his family life and his commitment to his church community.
