Muscat – On August 17, a group of over 200 pupils from Indian schools in Oman’s capital were given a rare glimpse of the Indian Navy’s indigenously built guided‑missile frigate INS Imphal. The warship, currently berthed at Sultan Qaboos Port, opened its decks to the students as part of an outreach program aimed at fostering maritime awareness and career interest among the South‑Asian diaspora.
Teachers escorted the youngsters through the vessel’s engineering spaces, navigation bridge and weapons stations, explaining how the ship was constructed in Indian shipyards and highlighting the technology that powers modern naval operations. Organisers said the visit underscores the strong ties between the Indian expatriate community in Oman and the nation’s defence forces, while also providing a tangible example of STEM pathways for aspiring engineers and officers.
The event, first reported by Desi Talk Chicago, reflects a growing trend of educational excursions that connect diaspora youth with India’s strategic assets, reinforcing cultural pride and expanding career horizons beyond the classroom.
