Nilgai herds regularly cause extensive damage to standing crops, particularly during harvest seasons, and farmers in the Muzaffarpur belt have historically had limited recourse beyond physical presence at their fields through the night. The MIT Muzaffarpur team set out to create an affordable and energy-independent solution that smallholder farmers could realistically deploy on their own land without requiring a continuous power supply from the grid.
