Nagpur Police Restrict Festive Noise While Airbus Opens South Asia's First Radome Hub
Nagpur heads into a packed festive calendar under new noise restrictions as police ban high-powered sound systems and laser lights through Dussehra, citing public safety and environmental law. At the same time, the city cements its aerospace credentials with the opening of South Asia's first dedicated radome maintenance hub, a partnership between Airbus and Nagpur-based Indamer Technics.
Festival Noise Ban Through November 1
Nagpur police have prohibited the use of high-powered and modified sound systems, beam projectors, and laser lights across the city until 11:59 pm on November 1, covering the entire run of major festivals this autumn. Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil announced the restriction through a press note, invoking Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The order came into force on September 4 and stretches through processions and celebrations for Gokulashtami, Dahihandi, Pola, Tanhapola, Tajuddin Baba's Chhabbisi, Ganeshotsav arrival and immersion processions, Dhamma Chakra Pravartan Day, and the arrival and immersion processions of Dussehra. Commissioner Nangre Patil cited a consistent pattern of public disputes and community tensions during these festivals when high-decibel equipment is deployed, noting that such equipment routinely breaches noise thresholds prescribed under the Environment Protection Act, 1986, and the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000. Beyond noise, the order squarely addresses laser light safety: powerful beam projectors and laser units pose a direct injury risk to eyesight, endanger general public health, and have previously caused drivers to lose control of their vehicles — leading to road accidents during processions. The announcement came against the backdrop of an ongoing civic debate in Pune over similar measures. Programme organisers, event office-bearers, sound-system operators, and sound-system vehicle owners engaged in equipment hire during the festival window are all subject to the restriction. Speaker systems operating within legally permissible noise limits are explicitly unaffected, and the police department has framed the measure as a public safety intervention rather than a blanket cultural restriction. 🏢 Airbus and Indamer Technics Launch South Asia's First Radome Repair Hub
European aerospace manufacturer Airbus has entered a strategic service agreement with Nagpur-based Indamer Technics to establish the first comprehensive radome repair and overhaul facility in all of South Asia. Through this partnership, Indamer Technics becomes an officially authorised centre for repairing, exchanging, and storing radomes for Airbus's commercial fleet — specifically covering the A320, A330, A350, and A380 aircraft families, which together account for a large share of the region's commercial aviation traffic. The new Nagpur hub is positioned as the central point for all Airbus radome servicing on the subcontinent, consolidating work that previously required sending components out of region. Indamer Technics operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of Horizon Aero Solutions Limited, itself a 50-50 joint venture between Adani Defence and Aerospace and Prime Aero. While Indamer already manages multiple Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facilities across India, this facility represents a first in its specialisation. The hub will carry out a full maintenance spectrum: complete structural inspections, minor and major structural repairs, paint stripping and repainting, and curing operations. It will also conduct advanced Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and issue Release to Service (RTS) certifications, the mandatory clearances required before any aircraft can re-enter commercial service after maintenance. The facility will additionally handle secure end-of-life disposal of older radome units. For context, a radome is the weatherproof composite dome at the very nose of a commercial aircraft, built from advanced materials to shield the radar and antenna systems from hailstorms, bird strikes, and the aerodynamic stresses of sustained flight.
