The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force executed a major anti-fraud operation in Nagpur, arresting Anurag Arvind Srivastava from his residence in the Mankapur police station area on July 31. The UP STF alleges Srivastava was the mastermind of a pan-India investment scam, targeting people drawn to the promise of high returns through stock market and IPO schemes. Investigators say he built the network using Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, channelling victims toward fraudulent investment portals and mobile applications that displayed fabricated profit figures and rising account balances to encourage progressively larger investments.
The haul from his residence was extensive: a laptop, an iPhone, two SIM cards, seals of three separate firms, six blank cheque books from different banks, two unsigned cheques worth ₹3.17 crore and ₹2.50 crore respectively, a cancelled cheque, 139 pages of documents, and a Tata Nexon SUV. Investigators also found that the syndicate had run fake stock market analysis training programmes on social media, used to build initial trust with prospective investors before directing them toward the fraudulent platforms. After securing a transit remand, the UP STF transported Srivastava to Lucknow, where a court placed him in judicial custody. 🗳️ Tamil Nadu Farmers Stopped at Nagpur on Way to Delhi Protest
Maharashtra police intercepted a delegation of Tamil Nadu farmers at Nagpur railway station on August 3 and forced them to deboard the train they had boarded for New Delhi, where they had planned to hold a demonstration at the Union Jal Shakti Ministry office on August 4. The delegation was led by KV Elankeeran, president of the federation organising the protest, who stated that police compelled the group to board the Tamil Nadu Express back toward their home state despite the farmers making repeated requests to be allowed to continue their journey.
Elankeeran described an abrupt intercession at Nagpur station, with officers overriding the delegation's requests in a manner the farmers found unjustified. Nagpur occupies a strategic position on north-south rail routes, making it a recurring site where police have previously halted protest groups travelling toward the capital. The incident raised immediate questions about the limits of police authority at transit points and the constitutional protections surrounding peaceful assembly and freedom of movement. Farmers' organisations have consistently argued that direct protests at central government offices are a protected right, and that state police blocking inter-state travel for lawful demonstrations undermines those civic guarantees.
