The girl had left home after a dispute with her mother and was waiting in heavy rain at Pari Chowk in Greater Noida, still roughly 25 kilometers from her destination, when a bus pulled up beside her. In fact, the vehicle was not on any scheduled route that night; it had been taken to a workshop in Surajpur for mechanical repairs, and the driver and conductor picked it up that evening. En route toward Delhi, the two men allegedly raped her, then abandoned her near the Kashmere Gate area of Old Delhi, more than 40 kilometers from where she had boarded.
