University of Pittsburgh and India's ICCR Extend Collaboration for Indian Studies Chair

The University of Pittsburgh has officially renewed its academic agreement with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) to fund and sustain the ICCR‑sponsored Indian Studies Chair. The renewal, announced at a ceremony attended by ICCR officials, underscores a long‑standing commitment to deepen scholarly exchange on South‑Asian subjects in the United States.

India’s Consul General, Binay S. Pradhan, highlighted that the partnership not only preserves a vital platform for research on Indian history, literature and culture but also offers new opportunities for students of Indian descent and the broader diaspora to engage with their heritage through coursework, public lectures and community outreach.

The chair, originally created through the ICCR‑University of Pittsburgh alliance, enables faculty appointments, research grants and visiting scholar programs that connect American and Indian institutions. By extending the agreement, both parties signal confidence in the role of higher‑education ties to foster cultural understanding and to produce scholarship that resonates with the growing South‑Asian population across North America.
