A Sacramento truck driver identified as Gurvinder Singh was stabbed in an overnight attack at a rest area along Interstate 80 in Wyoming, according to the Jakara Movement, a California-based Sikh community organization that brought the case to public attention. The stabbing took place on September 13 at approximately 3:27 a.m. near a rest area in Sweetwater County, Wyoming, according to the Sweetwater County Sheriff's Office. Deputies who responded to the scene found a man suffering from multiple cuts and stab wounds. Detectives subsequently determined that the suspect had fled the scene in a tractor-trailer after the attack. Critically, family members tracked the suspect's vehicle along the highway and provided real-time location information to law enforcement, allowing highway patrol officers to locate and stop the suspect in Rawlins, Wyoming. The suspect was subsequently arrested on charges of attempted homicide. Annakut, a Sanskrit term meaning a mountain of food, involves the ceremonial offering of hundreds or thousands of food items as an expression of devotion and gratitude, observed as part of the broader Diwali festival period in the Swaminarayan tradition. The Sacramento gathering drew strong community participation, with a gallery of fifty-nine photographs documenting the occasion. BAPS Sacramento serves as a central spiritual and cultural gathering place for the local South Asian Hindu community, particularly families following the Swaminarayan devotional path. The center regularly organizes a range of programs, including religious education through Satsang examinations, the Bal Satsang youth curriculum, and leadership development summits for teenagers and young adults.
