Modi Opens Rs 150 Crore Arvind Textile Facility in Varanasi, Training Over 300 Women

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a new textile manufacturing plant of Arvind Limited in the Khochwan area of Mirzamurad, Varanasi, on Sunday. The Rs 150‑crore facility, part of the Ahmedabad‑based group's expansion, marks a significant investment in Uttar Pradesh’s industrial corridor.
The plant is set to produce a range of fabrics for domestic and export markets, aligning with the government’s push to boost ‘Make in India’ initiatives. Officials said the complex will create numerous jobs, with a particular focus on women’s employment.
More than 300 women have already been enrolled in skill‑development programmes linked to the new unit, reflecting an effort to enhance female participation in the manufacturing sector. Training includes modern weaving techniques and safety protocols.
Community leaders in Varanasi welcomed the project, noting its potential to stimulate ancillary businesses and improve livelihoods. For the South‑Asian diaspora, the development underscores ongoing economic growth in their home region and the promise of skilled work opportunities for families back in India, while highlighting confidence in Indian textile capabilities amid global supply‑chain shifts.
