Mississauga’s Sikh Heritage Museum Battles Fire Aftermath

The Sikh Heritage Museum is a cornerstone of the community’s history. Its recent damage impacts both heritage preservation and collective memory.

🔥 Fire and Flood Damage

A small fire broke out on February 26 in a unit above the museum’s gallery on Drew Road near Airport and Derry Roads. While firefighters contained the blaze, the sprinkler system flooded the museum, soaking books, artifacts, furniture and other resources. Items dating back to the 1800s were damaged beyond repair, and the building will need to be gutted and rebuilt. Executive director Pardeep Singh Nagra described the loss as “very sad, very devastating,” but affirmed the institution will not be broken. [1]
