India’s community in China is small relative to the settler diasporas of the US, UK or Gulf, but it is long-established and concentrated in a handful of cities — mostly professionals, traders, students and their families.

On the mainland the community clusters in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen — trade, manufacturing, technology and university cities. Hong Kong’s South-Asian community is far older, with families settled for generations.
