The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), India's largest hospitality company, announced the signing of a Gateway hotel in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu on July 30, 2026. The 176-key Gateway Tiruchirappalli will be located on the Grand Southern Trunk Road and will offer views of the Kaveri River and the iconic Rockfort Temple on one side, and the revered Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple at Srirangam and the Jambukeswara Temple at Thiruvanaikaval on the other. The greenfield hotel is designed to serve business and leisure travellers, and includes an all-day dining restaurant, a specialty restaurant and bar, a swimming pool, gym, health club and spa. For social and corporate gatherings, the property offers over 5,000 square feet of banquet space, meeting rooms and pre-function areas, plus outdoor lawns spanning an acre for weddings and celebrations. The hotel is owned by Try Alam Hotels Pvt. Ltd., led by Mr A. Bagurudeen, part of the Alam Group of Companies which diversified from the automobile spare parts business into real estate and construction in 2010. IHCL noted that with this signing, the company will have 33 hotels in Tamil Nadu, including 14 under development. Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President of Real Estate and Development at IHCL, noted that destinations like Trichy are emerging as significant markets driven by business, education and religious travel. Two Tiruchirappalli Tourists Missing in Nepal Amid Floods
Two tourists from Tiruchirappalli who were travelling to Nepal as part of a religious pilgrimage were reported missing amid severe floods in the country, according to a report by ANI dated August 27, 2026. The travellers had set out from Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu as part of a group visiting Nepal. Flash floods hit Nepal's Nuwakot district, causing widespread devastation in the region. Families of the missing tourists reached out to authorities and appealed for help in locating their loved ones. The incident highlights the risks facing pilgrims and travellers to Nepal during the monsoon season, when the country frequently experiences dangerous flooding and landslides. Nepal is a popular destination for devotees from Tamil Nadu travelling on religious circuits, including visits to sacred Himalayan shrines. The ANI report noted that the families were seeking assistance as they awaited word on the whereabouts of the two individuals from Tiruchirappalli.
