Ganga Crosses Warning Level in Varanasi, 1,388 People Affected by Flooding
The Ganga river in Varanasi crossed its warning level, prompting authorities to intensify monitoring and suspend boat operations on the river. Around 11 localities and wards in the district had been partially affected by the flooding, indicating that the impact was felt across multiple parts of the city and its surroundings. The Varuna river's flooding affected 328 families comprising 1,388 people, who were among those most severely impacted by the rising water levels. Children were seen wading through waterlogged roads in the Chowkaghat area following the rise in the Varuna river's water levels. 🎓 Varanasi to Host National Poshan Maah 2026 Launch on September 9
The Ministry of Women and Child Development announced that the 9th Rashtriya Poshan Maah 2026 would be launched on 9th September at the Rudraksh International Cooperation and Convention Centre in Varanasi. Union Minister Annpurna Devi was set to launch the month-long campaign in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The theme for Poshan Maah 2026 was declared as Hamari Anganwadi Hamari Jimmedari, aimed at placing Anganwadi Centres at the heart of community-led action for nutrition and early childhood development. Community ownership and accountability were identified as key themes of this year's campaign. The initiative was designed to accelerate the formation and functioning of Anganwadi Management Committees across all centres in accordance with newly issued guidelines. The campaign also drew momentum from revised Supplementary Nutrition Programme guidelines that for the first time defined Hot Cooked Meals and mandated the display of SNP Menu Boards. Poshan Maah 2026 was additionally planned to celebrate ten years of the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, the government's flagship maternity benefit programme that has supported maternal nutrition and health-seeking behaviour for a decade. The month-long campaign is intended to advance the vision of a Suposhit Bharat as a foundation for Viksit Bharat 2047.
