Austin Mourns Tamil American UT Senior Savitha Shanmugasundaram
Savitha Shanmugasundaram, a 21-year-old Tamil American senior at the University of Texas at Austin, was killed on March 3, 2026, in a mass shooting at Buford's Backyard Beer Garden on West Sixth Street in Austin. The gunman, Ndiaga Diagne, 53, opened fire at the venue. Diagne was killed by police at the scene, and 14 other people were injured in the attack.
