Desi Lifestyle in Frisco

1👥How many, exactly

42,375 Asian Indian residents live in Frisco — 19.3% of a city of 219,304. Counting anyone who reported Asian Indian alone or in combination with another origin, the figure is 43,352, or 19.8%.

That is close to one in five people, and it is the largest Indian-American population of any city in Dallas–Fort Worth.

⚠ A number you will see quoted that means something different: Frisco is 26.4% Asian. That aggregate also counts the city's Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese and Filipino residents. Asian Indians are 68.7% of Frisco's Asian population — a large majority, but not all of it. Treat the Asian figure as a ceiling on the Desi share, never a measure of it.

2📈A city and a community, built together

This is the fact that separates Frisco from every other Desi centre in Texas. In the 2000 census, Frisco recorded 791 Asian residents in a town of 33,714. By 2020 it recorded 52,833 in a city of 200,509.

The Asian population grew 353% in the decade to 2020 alone. Over twenty years it grew by a factor of roughly sixty-seven.

But the city grew too — from 33,714 to 200,509, a 495% increase. Plano's Desi community moved into a suburb that already existed. Frisco's community and Frisco itself arrived together, which is why so much here is purpose-built rather than adapted: the pitches, the campuses, the school district.

3🗺️The largest in the metroplex

Plano has the older reputation, but Frisco has the larger community — 43,352 against Plano's 37,010 and Irving's 41,322, and a far higher share of its own population.

The wider frame matters more than the ranking. Collin County counts 119,401 Indian residents and Denton County 51,715 — and Frisco sits in both. North Texas is not a Desi suburb with a centre; it is a Desi region, and Frisco is its densest point.

⚠ Frisco straddles two counties, so it is already inside both totals above. They cannot be added together to describe "the area around Frisco".

4🏏A city government runs a cricket league

Most American cities host cricket. Frisco administers it. The City of Frisco Parks & Recreation department has run its own Adult Cricket League since 2018 — twenty-over matches on city-owned pitches at Northeast Community Park, spring and autumn seasons, eight matches per team plus playoffs.

It is a municipal programme in the ordinary sense: registration is team-based, and players must live in Frisco or within Frisco ISD boundaries. The league fields two named divisions, Fireworks and Thunders, and both were still running in 2026.

On size, the newest published figure is now dated and we will not dress it up as current: the league grew from 28 teams before the pandemic to 42 teams and roughly 1,000 participants as of the spring 2023 season. No more recent count has been published.

Youth cricket is delegated to the Frisco Community Cricket Association, a nonprofit founded in 2019, which runs an academy for ages 7–15 and a youth league at under-11, 13, 15 and 17.

Of the North Texas Cricket Association's 17 league grounds, three are in Frisco — the most of any city in the association.

Private money has followed the public programme rather than replacing it: two commercial cricket facilities were permitted in Frisco in 2023–24, at $4.0m and $5.0m. ⚠ Both are privately funded on private land — they are a signal of demand, not city investment, and should never be described as such.

5🛕Faith, and a building boom

Frisco's oldest South Asian religious institution is not a temple. The Islamic Center of Frisco opened on Frisco Street in May 2007, eight years before the city's largest Hindu temple.

That temple is Karya Siddhi Hanuman Temple, whose foundation bought ten acres in January 2008, broke ground on a 34,000 sq ft building in 2013, and opened in July 2015. Its 72-foot Raja Gopuram was completed in 2019. A week after opening it hosted a Guinness World Record for the longest continuous chanting — more than 24 hours of Hanuman Chalisa recitation.

⚠ One correction to a claim we have made elsewhere: Karya Siddhi is not a locally founded institution. It is operated by Datta Yoga Center, the American arm of Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji's order, headquartered in Mysuru. It was founded, directed and consecrated from India. That makes it a branch — architecturally and financially major, but not homegrown.

Frisco also has the Hindu Temple of Frisco (Sri Venkateswara), the North Texas Hindu Society, incorporated in December 2013, Shirdi Sai Samsthan Texas, and Eknoor Gurdwara, which opened in Frisco in November 2019.

There is still no Jain centre operating in Collin County — Collin County Jains travel to the Jain Society of North Texas derasar on Webb Chapel Road in Dallas. That is about to change: in May 2026 Frisco's Planning & Zoning Commission approved a Jain temple on roughly 5.6 acres on Lebanon Road, alongside a second mosque and a new Hindu temple. The City Council declined to appeal, allowing all three to proceed.

Three purpose-built South Asian religious campuses approved in a single month is the clearest measure of where this community is in its life cycle. Plano's institutions are young. Frisco's are still being built.

6🎓A school district that teaches Tamil

Frisco ISD does not offer South Asian languages itself. What it does instead is arguably more interesting: it lets students earn high school world-language credit at outside institutions, up to two credits, provided the institution is accredited and the course is pre-approved.

Of the six institutions on the district's approved list, four teach South Asian languages — Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Urdu — and a fifth teaches Sanskrit. The Avvai Tamil Center was approved in January 2019, SiliconAndhra Manabadi for Telugu in April 2018, Samskrita Bharati for conversational Samskritam in March 2018, and the Vedic Hindi School — the only one with a Frisco street address — in February 2022. Urdu comes through the Apex Language Institute of America.

This is what a community looks like once it stops improvising. Weekend language classes exist in every Desi suburb in America; a public school district granting graduation credit for them is a different level of institutional recognition.

The pattern repeats in who is organised here. Filtering the IRS register to nonprofits based in Frisco — not merely serving it — turns up seven Tamil organisations, alongside the Telangana People's Association of Dallas, Pakistan Community Services and the Guru Nanak Sikh Study Center. Frisco's Tamil institutional density is unusual, and it is the one community here with both a home-grown association base and two separate credit pathways in the school district.

In classical arts the city leans the same way it leans in language: strong in Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi, thinner in Kathak and Odissi. Kuchipudi Kalakshetra, founded in 1996 by Smt. Padma Sonti, is based in Frisco; Eshwer Natyaalaya was founded in Frisco in 2011; the Arathi School of Dance, the metroplex's oldest, teaches here through Frisco-based faculty.

The city itself formalised the relationship in 2024, when it established a Multicultural Committee to advise the council on cultural awareness and events.

7🏘️What the community built

Census data says who lives here. It does not say what they opened. These are our own published Frisco listings, counted the day this page was built.

The shape is dominated by medicine: health practitioners are roughly two thirds of every Desi business we have mapped in Frisco, a concentration even higher than Plano's. That count is drawn from a federal provider registry and is reliable.

⚠ We are not going to divide that by our restaurant count. Our Frisco food coverage is incomplete — we list 97 Desi restaurants in Plano and 7 in Frisco, a city with more Indian residents. That gap is a fact about our directory, not about Frisco, and it is recorded in the next chapter rather than dressed up as a finding.

🔍What we could not verify

Five research agents, and these remain unconfirmed from primary sources. They are unresearched or unresolved — not disproven — and deliberately absent from everything above.

• Median household income for Asian Indian households in Frisco — the Census table that breaks income down by detailed origin requires a population of 500,000+, and Frisco is ~219,000. The Asian-alone figure ($196,942 against a city median of $150,212) exists but is NOT a Desi figure and is not presented as one
• Telugu, Hindi, Gujarati and Tamil speaker counts for Frisco — the detailed-language census table is not published at city level. The two available buckets each mix Desi languages with unrelated ones
• Current (2025–26) team and participant counts for the City of Frisco Adult Cricket League — the 2023 figures are the newest published
• The number of cricket pitches at Northeast Community Park — the city lists the amenity without a count
• Whether either privately funded Frisco cricket facility has actually opened — permits record estimated completion, not operation
• Founding years for Shirdi Sai Samsthan Texas, the Hindu Temple of Frisco and Gita Mandir — none publishes one
• Eknoor Gurdwara’s founding year — aggregators say 2017, but only the November 2019 Frisco opening is confirmed by a primary source
• Congregation or membership sizes for any Frisco institution — none publishes them, so any number here would be invented
• Our own Desi restaurant and grocery coverage for Frisco is materially incomplete (7 restaurants listed against 97 in Plano)
• Attendance for the Frisco Diwali Mela at Kaleidoscope Park, or any other Frisco Desi festival — no figure survived verification, exactly as in Plano
• Founding years for Nritya Dance Academy, Abhinaya Kuchipudi Dance Academy, Surabhi Music Academy and Indian Octaves — none publishes one
• Whether the Frisco Indian Affairs Committee, created in 2017, is still active — it does not appear on the city’s current boards and commissions list
• Student numbers for any of the Frisco ISD approved language institutions — the Avvai Tamil Center’s “1000+ students” is its own claim, not an independent count
