International Design Contest Draws Over 165 Entries for Sydney’s Bays West Revamp

Sydney’s ambitious Bays West precinct makeover has entered its next design stage after an international competition attracted more than 165 submissions from multidisciplinary teams spanning Australia and abroad. The contest, overseen by the Bays West Delivery Authority in partnership with Government Architect NSW, seeks fresh concepts for two pivotal zones within the waterfront development.

The strong response highlights the global interest in shaping one of Australia’s most high‑profile urban regeneration projects. For the South‑Asian diaspora, the competition underscores the growing opportunities for architects, planners and designers of Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and other Desi backgrounds to contribute to landmark city‑building initiatives outside the subcontinent.
