Congress Leader Chenthi Ani Arrested for Blocking Kerala CM Satheesan's Convoy in Thiruvananthapuram
Deccan Herald reported that Thiruvananthapuram District Congress Committee (DCC) leader Anil Kumar, widely known as Chenthi Ani, was arrested in the city for allegedly blocking the official convoy of Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan. According to police, the incident took place on a Friday evening while Satheesan's convoy was travelling to Chempazhanthy to attend a function marking the birth anniversary of the revered social reformer Sree Narayana Guru. A group of people organising a competing Sree Narayana Guru event at a locality called Chenthi signalled the chief minister's vehicle to stop along the route. Satheesan stepped out of his car in response to their request and was subsequently seen in widely circulated television footage arguing with Congress leader Ani before returning to his vehicle and continuing to his scheduled destination. Police stated that no event at Chenthi was listed on the chief minister's official schedule for that evening, casting doubt on the organisers' claims. Following the incident, Congress workers and event organisers released a photograph of themselves meeting Satheesan at the state Secretariat several months earlier, asserting that the photograph proved they had formally invited him to the Chenthi function.
