India, Australia Naval Chiefs Convene in Sydney to Explore Deeper Maritime Ties

Indian Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan met with Australian Fleet Commander Rear Admiral Anita Williams at the naval base HMAS Kuttabul in Sydney on Thursday. The high‑level dialogue covered the Royal Australian Navy’s upcoming fleet upgrades and new ship inductions, and examined ways the two services could tighten operational cooperation.

Both officers highlighted the strategic importance of the Indo‑Pacific corridor, noting that enhanced interoperability would benefit joint exercises, humanitarian assistance, and maritime security missions. While specific projects were not disclosed, the conversation underscored a shared interest in expanding communication channels and aligning training programmes.
